Challenges of state and parameter estimation in cardiac dynamics

Modeling and simulating complex electro-mechanical excitation waves in the heart is key to developing novel clinical diagnostics and therapies for cardiac arrhythmias. We give a brief introduction into the nonlinear dynamics of the heart and present different types of available data and mathematical models. After specifying possible tasks and applications for data assimilation in cardiac dynamics we shall discuss approaches and ideas to address these tasks and present preliminary results.
