Abstract |
We will present a description of the CESM-DART ocean-atmosphere ensemble coupled data assimilation system being developed at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. This will include current status, progress toward the "strongly-coupled" framework, infrastructure work to support greater computational efficiency and ongoing efforts within the community to expand capabilities to new components. Highlights from a configuration using the nominal 1-degree coupled global model constrained primarily by radiosonde atmospheric temperature and winds and by in-situ ocean hydrographic measurements will be presented, including metrics demonstrating the 6-hr forecast errors, ensemble reliability, simulation of large-scale climate modes (e.g. ENSO and NAO) and the instantaneous cross-interface correlations that may be exploited by a strongly-coupled system. |
