The RIKEN International School on Data Assimilation (RISDA 2018) will provide students, researchers and engineers interested in data assimilation with lectures on broad applications of data assimilation, such as mathematics, geoscience, biology, neuroscience, physics, and machine learning, from renowned scientists/professors. The school will also offer hands-on experience in running actual data assimilation systems. The school aims to encourage discussions among researchers with various background; in particular, big data, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence (AI)-related topics.
The ideal candidate will have many of the following qualities, however this list is not meant to be a “checklist” for applicants to meet all criteria:
- Familiar with data assimilation, not necessarily a data assimilation expert, but rather a scholar who could benefit from learning advanced data assimilation tools and methods
- A graduate student with a strong research plan or a postdoctoral fellow in the early stages of his or her research effort
- May have a science or engineering background, however, applicants from other disciplines are welcome
