Application Guideline for RIKEN Research Funds for Data Assimilation

1. Overview

With the support of Discretionary Funds of RIKEN President, Data Assimilation Research Team launched a project that is intended to develop an innovative cross-disciplinary research community integrating mathematical, experimental, and simulation sciences through data assimilation.

The project aims to create and expand the community in data assimilation by promoting communications among researchers in various study fields ranging from geosciences to biosciences and neurosciences. The project provides financial support to pioneering and innovative ideas on data-assimilation-related research in various fields.

2. Mission

A) Propose an innovative research idea related to data assimilation, and submit it with the application form.
B) Develop a specific research plan based on the idea.
C) Present the idea and research plan at the international data assimilation symposium in Kobe on February 27 to March 2, 2017.

3. Qualifications

A) RIKEN PI or RIKEN researcher can apply.

4. Budget guideline

Up to 1 million yen per project (only direct costs)
*Not carried forward to the next fiscal year

5. Schedule

Application deadline: October 24, 2016
Notification of results: October 27, 2016

Research period: Early November, 2016 to the end of March, 2017
