Requirement of simulation code for big data assimilation

The fast simulation is still a key factor for the big data assimilation system. Considering the processor trend, we cannot expect speed up of the simulation part, especially, the computational fluid dynamics part rather than the assimilation part. However, as increasing the computer power, the dynamics is going to higher resolution. Current cloud resolving models are replaced by Large Eddy Simulation models. In the physics, for example, the cloud microphysics is going from bulk methods to a spectral bin model. It is needed to select important things among their wealth choices of numerical aspects. For a real-time prediction system, it is important to consider them from the viewpoints of cost effectiveness. In this talk, our activities based on the above will be introduced.
