Objective
The JICA‑JST Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) project, “Numerical Weather Prediction and Warning Communication System for Densely Populated and Vulnerable Cities” (PREVENIR, FY2022‑2026, PI: Takemasa Miyoshi), harnesses cutting‑edge simulation technology and data science developed on the supercomputers K and Fugaku. The project aims to deliver an end‑to‑end package that protects urban areas from flood damage caused by intense rainstorms. Its activities span:- High‑resolution numerical weather prediction with big‑data assimilation,
- Real‑time precipitation monitoring using radar and satellite data,
- Disaster‑prevention information systems, and
- Educational programs for crisis‑management authorities and residents.
In FY2025 the annual general meeting will be hosted in Japan. Taking this opportunity, the workshop will feature institutional visits, river surveys, and expert sessions to exchange Japan’s disaster‑prevention experience and explore broader applications of the research.
